โ๏ธ How We Reached Milan
Our Italy adventure began with an Etihad Airways flight from Mumbai to Milan via Abu Dhabi.
We landed at Milan Malpensa Airport at around 8:00 AM, and the immigration process was surprisingly quick and hassle-free. Within a short time, we had collected our luggage and were ready to head into the city.
To reach the city centre, we boarded the Malpensa Express, which connects the airport with Milano Centrale Railway Station in approximately 45โ50 minutes. The trains are comfortable, punctual, and the easiest way to travel from the airport to Milan.
After checking into our Airbnb around 12:00 PM, we freshened up, left our luggage, and immediately stepped out to begin exploring one of Italy’s most vibrant cities.

๐๏ธ Day 1: A Relaxed Introduction to Milan
Since we had just completed a long international journey, we intentionally kept our first day light. Rather than rushing between attractions, we chose to enjoy Milan’s atmosphere, beautiful parks, and local food at a leisurely pace.
Most of today’s sightseeing was done on foot after taking the Milan Metro to Sforzesco Castle.
๐ฐ Sforzesco Castle
Our first stop was the magnificent Sforzesco Castle (Castello Sforzesco), one of Milan’s most iconic landmarks.
Originally built during the 15th century, the castle is now home to several museums and impressive courtyards. Even if you don’t plan to visit the museums, the castle itself is worth exploring.
We spent some time walking around the grounds before heading into the beautiful park behind it.
โฑ Time Spent: Around 45 minutes
๐ฐ Entry: Free (museum tickets available separately)

๐ณ Parco Sempione
Located directly behind the castle is Parco Sempione, Milan’s largest public park.
After our overnight flight, this was exactly what we needed.
The park was full of locals jogging, walking their dogs, cycling, and simply enjoying the afternoon. Sitting here for a while gave us our first glimpse of everyday life in Milan.
If you’re not in a hurry, don’t skip this park. It’s one of the most peaceful places in the city centre.
๐ Arco della Pace
A pleasant 10-minute walk through Parco Sempione brought us to Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace).
The impressive triumphal arch is surrounded by cafรฉs, restaurants, and open spaces where locals gather in the evenings.
We spent some time taking photographs before continuing our walk.
Walking Time from Sforzesco Castle: Approximately 15 minutes

โช Tempio di San Sebastiano
Next, we visited Tempio di San Sebastiano, a quiet church tucked away from Milan’s busy streets.
The peaceful atmosphere inside made it a perfect place to take a short break before lunch.

๐ Lunch at Piz
After exploring for several hours, it was finally time for food.
We headed to Piz, one of Milan’s most popular restaurants for authentic Neapolitan-style pizza.
We ordered freshly made pizzas along with a refreshing Aperol Spritz, and it quickly became one of our favourite meals in Milan.
โญ Our Rating: 9.5/10
Average Cost: โฌ20โ30 for two people.

๐จ Ciacco โ The Best Gelato We Had in Italy
No Italy trip is complete without gelato.
Our final stop for the day was Ciacco, and without exaggeration, it served the best gelato we had during our entire Italy trip.
Every flavour tasted fresh, creamy, and made with high-quality ingredients.
If you’re visiting Milan, this is one food stop you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
โญ Our Rating: 10/10

๐ End of Day 1
After a relaxed afternoon filled with beautiful parks, historic landmarks, delicious pizza, and unforgettable gelato, we returned to our accommodation to rest.
We wanted to start early the next morning because Day 2 was dedicated to exploring Milan’s world-famous attractions, including the magnificent Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
๐๏ธ Day 2: Explore Milan’s Most Famous Attractions
Our second day in Milan was dedicated to exploring the city’s iconic landmarks, historic churches, museums, and vibrant neighbourhoods. Since most of the attractions are located close to one another, it is possible to cover many of them on foot with the help of the Milan Metro whenever needed.
If you’re following this 2-day Milan itinerary, we highly recommend starting your day as early as possible. Not only will you avoid the crowds, but you’ll also enjoy cooler weather and have the best lighting for photography.
๐ 7:00 AM โ Visit Piazza del Duomo Before the Crowds
We reached Piazza del Duomo at around 7:00 AM, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of our trip.
The square was almost empty, allowing us to admire the magnificent Duomo di Milano without the usual crowds. Watching the city slowly wake up while standing in front of one of Italy’s most iconic cathedrals was a memorable experience.
The soft morning light also made it the perfect time to capture beautiful photographs.
๐ก Travel Tip: If you want crowd-free photos of the Duomo, try to arrive before 8:00 AM.
โช Guided Tour of Duomo di Milano
After spending some time around the square, we joined our guided tour of the Duomo di Milano, which we had booked in advance through the official Duomo website.
Booking directly through the official website was simple and ensured we got our preferred time slot. Our guide shared fascinating stories about the cathedral’s construction, Gothic architecture, stained-glass windows, and intricate marble carvings.
One of the highlights of the visit was walking on the Duomo Rooftop, where we enjoyed breathtaking views of Milan and admired the countless marble spires up close.
If you’re visiting Milan for the first time, we highly recommend including the rooftop in your ticket. It’s one of the city’s most unforgettable experiences.
โฑ Recommended Time: 2โ3 hours
๐๏ธ Tip: Book your tickets online well in advance, especially during the summer months.

๐๏ธ Explore Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Just a two-minute walk from the Duomo is the spectacular Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the oldest and most beautiful shopping arcades in the world.
Even if luxury shopping isn’t your priority, the architecture alone makes it worth visiting.
Inside, you’ll find:
- Beautiful glass-and-iron dome
- Luxury fashion boutiques
- Historic cafรฉs
- Elegant restaurants
- Stunning mosaic floors
Don’t forget to look for the famous Bull Mosaic near the centre of the arcade.
According to local tradition, spinning three times on the bull’s heel is believed to bring good luck. Naturally, we couldn’t leave without trying it ourselves!

๐ฅ Lunch at Luini
By lunchtime, we had worked up quite an appetite and headed to Luini, one of Milan’s most famous bakeries.
Luini is best known for its freshly baked panzerotti, and it’s common to see long queues outside. Fortunately, the service is quick, and the wait is absolutely worth it.
We tried:
- ๐ฅ Ricotta & Spinach Panzerotto
- ๐ฅ Ham & Cheese Panzerotto
Both were freshly made, delicious, and surprisingly affordable.
โญ Our Rating: 10/10
๐ฐ Budget Tip: Luini is one of the best places in Milan for a quick and inexpensive lunch.

๐ Attractions We Visited on Day 2
After lunch, we continued exploring Milan’s historic centre. Depending on your interests and energy levels, you can customise your route and visit as many of these attractions as possible.
โช Chiesa di San Satiro
A hidden architectural gem famous for its remarkable optical illusion inside the church. Despite its small size, it’s one of Milan’s most fascinating churches.
โช Santuario di San Bernardino alle Ossa
One of Milan’s most unique churches, known for its chapel decorated with human bones and skulls. Although slightly unusual, it is an interesting historical site worth visiting.
๐๏ธ Colonne di San Lorenzo

The surrounding square is lively throughout the day and is a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors.

โช Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore
Located just behind the Roman columns, this basilica is one of Milan’s oldest churches and features beautiful interiors and impressive architecture.
โช Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio
Dedicated to Milan’s patron saint, this is one of the city’s most important religious landmarks.
Its peaceful courtyard and Romanesque architecture make it one of the most beautiful churches in Milan.

Art lovers shouldn’t miss this elegant museum, home to an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, armour, and decorative arts.
๐จ Pinacoteca di Brera
One of Italy’s finest art museums, featuring masterpieces by Raphael, Caravaggio, Bellini, and many other renowned artists.
Even if you’re not a huge art enthusiast, the surrounding Brera district is worth exploring for its charming streets and cafรฉs.
๐๏ธ Santa Maria delle Grazie (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
No Milan itinerary is complete without visiting Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da Vinci’s world-famous masterpiece, The Last Supper.
If you wish to see the painting, make sure to book your tickets several months in advance, as they sell out very quickly.

๐ Evening Walk Along the Navigli Canals
To end our two days in Milan, we headed to the beautiful Navigli District.
As the sun began to set, the canals came alive with restaurants, cafรฉs, street musicians, and locals enjoying aperitivo by the water.
Walking along the canals with a gelato in hand was the perfect way to conclude our Milan adventure.
If you’re visiting during spring or summer, don’t miss spending at least a couple of hours here in the evening.
